Abbey Road Studios has been at the heart of the music industry for over 75 years and is one of the most authoritative, established and well-known names in the world of music. It has been the location of countless landmark recordings and pioneered new recording techniques and technology. Today, it is almost certainly the world’s most technically advanced recording, mixing, film-scoring and post-production complex.
For many years, Abbey Road benefited from the talents of EMI’s research and development division, which built mixing consoles and outboard gear to meet the studios’ requirements. Most of this equipment was only available to EMI studios and was never sold commercially. This equipment, combined with the acoustic properties of the studios, led to the creation of the “Abbey Road Sound” which can be heard on some of the most popular recordings of all time.
