Alesis iMultiMix 8 USB Mixer
Alesis iMultiMix 8 USB Mixer is a professional mixing and direct-to-iPod recording. The iMultiMix 8 USB, sequel of the well known Alesis MultiMix 8 USB, is a sturdy, compact all-in-one tabletop mixer and recorder that features 100 studio grade 28–bit digital effects, a built–in limiter to avoid distorted recordings and an integrated iPod dock with control wheel transport controls(mounting dock to enable recording directly to any 2nd through 5th generation iPod) for fast, easy direct–to–iPod recording.
Alesis CEO Jack O’Donnell said “The iMultiMix 8 USB is an exciting new addition to the Alesis product line, with forward thinking functionality and an innovative design. Alesis always strives to deliver quality and features to meet the needs of users. The iMultiMix 8’s iPod recording features will give users a way to easily record their live performance directly onto the world’s most popular music device.”
As an important addition to the Alesis line of highly acclaimed mixers, the iMultiMix 8 USB is the first to feature integrated iPod control and recording capability. The iMultiMix 8 USB represents the first mixer to fuse together professional quality mixing, 3 band per channel EQ, guitar/line inputs and iPod recording in a single, intuitive package. For ultra–clean live recordings of nearly any performance, including home studios, musicians, podcasters, and houses of worship, the iMultiMix 8 USB is an ideal solution.
Once recordings are completed simply use the convenient transfer to iTunes feature to move your recordings to a computer with Mac OSX or WindowsXP without need for a special driver or complicated set–up. All channels are recorded down to CD Quality stereo 44.1 or 48kHz.
The iMultiMix 8 USB can also playback music from the iPod, and mix your live performance instantly with the iPod. This makes the iMultiMix 8 USB perfect for using the iPod as a backing track for solo or band performances, mixing and a sound source all in one compact, convenient place.
Mac OS and Windows users can connect to the iMultiMix 8 USB using USB for direct to computer recording as well. In addition to its computer connectivity, the iMultiMix8 USB offers eight analog inputs, one hundred 28-Bit effects, phantom power, and 2 switchable mic/line/guitar inputs.
The iMultiMix 8 USB has the same world-class effects on the Alesis MultiMix 8 USB, one of the most popular recording mixers available. Vocalists can add professional quality reverb and guitar players can create flange effects, all of which are mixed and recorded to the iPod with ease. iPod owners will find this mixer the perfect compliment for a wide variety of recording needs thanks to its natural merging of the control wheel and traditional mixer knobs.

If you require recording more than the life of the battery on the iPod, you will not be able to use this product unless you are using a Solid State iPod (iPod Videos need not apply). You can charge while recording, but you will get noise in the recording. That is a huge fault that I can’t see getting fixed. Plus the manual states that it is not a defect in the Alesis unit but an inherent problem with the HD iPod system.
Other than that, it is a very well built mixer. The USB audio interface is cool also.
