You can charge while recording, but you will get noise in the recording. That is a huge fault that I can't see getting fixed. Plus the manual states that it is not a defect in the Alesis unit but an inherent problem with the HD iPod system. Other than that, it is a very well built mixer. The USB audio interface is cool also.
